Dr. Jhuma Basak
Dr. Jhuma Basak is a Training and Supervising Analyst of the Indian Psychoanalytical Society, and has her Ph.D in Psychology from Kyushu University, Fukuoka, Japan. She is the representative of the 4th IPA- region in the Committee on Women and Psychoanalysis; and consultant in the IPA Humanitarian Organisation.
She started her career as a dancer-choreographer and later moved into psychoanalysis. She has travelled widely across the world supported by the Indian Council of Cultural Relations, and the Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, and also the India Foundation for the Arts, Bangalore.
Her area of interest in psychoanalysis lies in culture, women and gender. She has international publications in journals and books translated into different languages like Japanese, Italian, French, German, Spanish, Hungarian, along with papers presented at various national conferences, as well as IPA Congresses across the world.
Dr. Basak is the Mentor of the Psychoanalytic Study Group, Dept of Psychology, Christ University, Bangalore. She is a Visiting Professor & member of the Board of Examiners at the Ambedkar University, School of Human Studies. At present she is associated with Gems Akademia International School as Mentor, Boarding Section. Additionally, she is the Professor and Head of Centre of Creative & Performing Arts - Aangan, NSHM Knowledge Campus, Kolkata.
She is currently a member of the International Advisory Board of academic journal, Institutionalized Children: Explorations and Beyond (ICEB). She is also the Editor of Samiksa, the journal of the Indian Psychoanalytical Society.
She is presently a Consultant Psychoanalyst at the Woodlands Multispeciality Hospital, Medica Superspecialty Hospital, and Crystal Minds, Kolkata.
